1950's Jewelled Swagged Collar Necklace in The Edwardian Style (SOLD)
Are there enough superlatives to describe this beautiful vintage diamante necklace? Well, maybe, so I will try! First the quality is excellent, I would guess that this is an unsigned designer item from the workmanship and the style. Next, the crystals themselves must be Swarvowski - they are multi faceted and twinkle with a silver white light that only the very best Austrian crystals have. Secondly, the clasp is set with three real marcasite stones and there is an additional safety chain to prevent loss. The plated white metal finish is Rhodium, a metal in the platinum family used to prevent tarnish on high end costume jewellery. Finally, the diamante crystals have all been claw set by hand with four claws for the tiny round stones but the large moving crystals have no less than ten claws on each stone. This vintage diamante necklace dates from the 1950's but the style of it harks back to a much earlier era. It is Edwardian in style and the use of moving or 'entremblant' diamante is something that was all the rage back then. The necklace has a swagged appearance with loops of small diamante joining together with baguette shaped jewels to suspend the glorious large diamante 'diamonds'. Wow! This amazing diamante necklace would be perfect for a bride or would be a super addition to a collection of top quality vintage designer signed costume jewellery. It measures 16 inches including the snap over clasp and the longest swag is just under 1 inch in drop.
