Violets Brooch (sold)
This sweet brooch illustrates six lovely violets, not as a bunch but growing. The flowers are picked out in several shades of purple and mauve with little yellow middles, and the leaves and stems too feature two different shades of green making a very pretty and realistic picture. This has a 1940's feel about it and is like many of the lovely hand-worked tablecloths, tray cloths and napkins of that time. The linen background is a dark beige colour and the embroidery has a skillful textured effect. Measuring approximately 2.5 inches (6.5cms) by 1.75 inches (5cms) the work is mounted in a silver coloured chromed oval gallery with a rope patterned border. There is a clear plastic front protecting the embroidery. The back has a secure rollover 'C' type clasp and pin mount. Embroidered and hand-made brooches were made in quantity during the 'make-do-and-mend' years of world war two and they remained popular throughout the 1940's, 1950's and 1960's. You could also buy kits with threads, pre-printed designs on fabric and the necessary mounts to complete your piece of jewellery. This would be lovely to wear or add to your collection of Vintage Flower pins or old needlework.
