Vintage Roses Brooch - 1950's Reverse Carved Lucite (SOLD)
This super 1950's vintage brooch with its two raspberry pink roses it is simple but so effective. The open blooms have a natural-looking tobacco brown leaf either side of them and both the leaves and flowers have been hand carved into the reverse of a lucite lozenge. The lucite for the brooch is a rectangle with rounded corners and it has been angled to make a reflective rim. The brooch is in good condition with some surface scratching which doesn't detract from its appeal. It fastens with a secure 'c' type clasp which has a little bit of darkening on the metal back which is to be expected on some loved items of genuine old costume jewellery. The raspberry roses brooch measures 4 cms by 3.5 cms and is half a centimetre thick.
This vintage pin is a great collectable for anyone interested in Bakelite era and early plastics . Lucite was Dupont's trade name for their acrylic plastic material which they patented in the 1930's and is usually the name given to brooches and pins of this type. The most common theme for them is flowers, some abstract and Art Deco in design, others very detailed - so you can tell exactly which flower is being depicted! Vintage Lucite brooches are see through so take on the colour of the item of clothing that they are pinned to. They look fresh and pretty on white and light colours and striking and dramatic on black and dark colours - How will you wear yours?
