Vintage Lucite Brooch-1940s - Bunch of Flowers - Large Oblong Shape (sold)

This 1940's Brooch is a super example of the reverse carved Lucite pins that were very popular during the forties and fifties.    The design is a bunch of flowers which look something like a Crocus when closed. The colours include purple, pink and yellow for the blooms and green for the furled and open leaves. This vintage Lucite brooch has an unusual shape. Essentially it is a rectangle but it is 'nipped in' to the centre on all four sides and has curves too. Very effective . Measuring approx 47 mms by 37 mms and 8 mms thick this vintage brooch is a nice large sized example.  The brooch is in very good condition and it benefits from a 'rainbow rim' which reflects the muted colours of the floral arrangement.  There is a brass pin which fastens into a 'c' type clasp.

This  vintage pin is a great collectable for anyone interested in Bakelite era and early plastics .  Lucite was Dupont's trade name for their acrylic plastic material which they patented in the 1930's and is usually the name given to brooches and pins of this type.  The most common theme for them is flowers, some abstract and Art Deco in design, others very detailed - so you can tell exactly which flower is being depicted!  Lucite brooches are see through so take on the colour of the item of clothing that they are pinned to.  They look fresh and pretty on white and light colours and striking and dramatic on black and dark colours - How will you wear yours?
