Vintage Hairslide with Art Nouveau Design ( SOLD)
This is a fabulous vintage hair clip in tortoiseshell and ivory coloured celluloid. It has a decorative cut out design all around the edge. The central panel of 'Ivorine' (this is a really good early plastic faux ivory, complete with the kind of cross hatching marks you find on natural ivory) has been inlaid with a typical art nouveau pattern of swirling leaves. The brown colour of this inlay contrasts perfectly with the ivorine panel. This must be a transitional piece dating from between about 1915 and 1925 - the end of the art nouveau era and the beginning of the Art Deco era. This antique hair ornament is in really good condition and is robust enough to use with care. This hairslide measures 3.25 inches in length and is 1.5 inches wide at it's widest point. The back pin is made of gilded brass and it snaps shut onto a metal ball. This would make an excellent addition to a collection of early bakelite era plastics, hair ornaments or vintage costume accessories.
