Vintage Carnation Floral Brooch 1940s Pin in Early Plastic Lucite - Peach, Pink and Green (sold)
This chunky vintage square shaped lucite brooch shows a natural carnation flower in full bloom, with two buds one each side. The flower is very realistic. The colour of the carnation bloom and buds is a peachy pink and there are some grassy green leaves decorating it. The flowers and foliage have been reverse carved into the lucite and the floral picture sits within the square so that there is a point above and below it and a point to either side. The angle of the carving on this vintage brooch adds to its style and appeal. Dating from the late 1940s or early 1950s this old brooch is in very good condition and is a nice large size of 4 cms square and a centimetre thick. The edges on this vintage lucite brooch have been bevelled to give a reflection all around. It has a silver tone pin with a roll over end - a bit like an old tie pin. This brooch is in Excellent condition. This vintage pin is a great collectable for anyone interested in Bakelite era and early plastics . Lucite was Dupont's trade name for their acrylic plastic material which they patented in the 1930's and is usually the name given to brooches and pins of this type. The most common theme for them is flowers, some abstract and Art Deco in design, others very detailed - so you can tell exactly which flower is being depicted; which is the case with this Carnation flower brooch. This type of reverse-carved Lucite brooch is see through so takes on the colour of the item of clothing that it will be pinned to. This brooch will be fresh and pretty on white and light colours and striking and dramatic on black and dark colours.
