Vintage 1940's Reverse Carved Lucite Roses Brooch with maker's signature! (SORRY SOLD)

This is a really lovely reverse carved Lucite brooch from the 1940's.  It is a generous rectangular slab of Lucite in the shape of a book which makes it quite a rare find.  Lucite is Dupont's Trade name for their acrylic plastic which they patented in 1936.  ICI used the name Perspex for their similar material.  In the Jewellery trade the name ' Lucite' is favoured for all acrylic pieces as it was the most widely coined term for American Jewelry. Lucite brooches from the 1930s, 1940's and 1950's are becoming firm favourites with collectors.  Just recently a collection of these early plastic pins appeared on the BBC Antiques Roadshow.   It is easy to see why they appeal - each one has been hand produced so there are natural variations in the style and design, the material is light making the brooches very easy to wear.  The 'see-through' nature of the Lucite makes the brooch take on a different appearance when pinned onto various coloured clothes. This brooch has a white rose, a blush rose and a salmon pink rose stem with moss green leaves.  These open roses and leaves are a lilttle bit faded but that only adds to their antique appeal.  The carver has popped an initial on the bottom - 'R' which is a lovely touch and is not often seen on brooches of this kind.  This vintage brooch measures 2inches by 1.5 inches  and is one quarter of an inch in thickness. It is in excellent condition and would make a special gift or would be perfect for collectors of  antique and vintage costume jewellery or early bakelite era plastics.
