Unusual Shaped Dress Pin - 1940's Lucite Brooch -(SOLD)

Here is a vintage reverse carved lucite brooch from the 1940s.  It is a rectangle with a dome which has been shaped at each end. The design comprises of a central pink flower flanked by tobacco coloured leaves and speckled maroon smaller flowers.   It is nice and chunky  measuring 2.5 x 3 x 1.5 cms and is in good order.  There is a tiny bit of 'frosting' within the brooch so one corner only appears a little sparkly at certain angles but this doesn't detract in any way. There is a white metal bar and pin held by a simple 'c' clasp to the rear. This is a most unusual shaped example and it would be a great addition to a collection of early Lucite brooches.

This  vintage pin is a great collectable for anyone interested in Bakelite era and early plastics .  Lucite was Dupont's trade name for their acrylic plastic material which they patented in the 1930's and is usually the name given to brooches and pins of this type.  The most common theme for them is flowers, some abstract and Art Deco in design, others very detailed - so you can tell exactly which flower is being depicted!  Lucite brooches are see through so take on the colour of the item of clothing that they are pinned to.  They look fresh and pretty on white and light colours and striking and dramatic on black and dark colours - How will you wear yours?
