Sterling Silver Nurses' Buckle - English Hallmarked Silver in the Regency Style (SOLD)
Here we have a two-piece English Sterling Silver Buckle which at first glance appears to have a bit of Art Nouveau styling to it. On closer examination the piece feels more Regency in style. It is a retro work in the style of the Romantic Movement; from the time when nature, landscapes, great gardens with flowered trellises and lovers meeting for secret trysts in a bower were all influences in popular art, including jewellery. This heavy real silver (weight 42 grams) two piece nurses' buckle has all the looks of the Georgian period but is much later in date. The Hallmarks indicate it is sterling silver that was assayed in Birmingham in 1988, it also has a makers mark - PR. If this were a period item from an earlier era it would be incredibly expensive today. The buckle has been made by the casting process and is very detailed with the trellis and foliate decoration being finely defined. The reverse of this vintage silver buckle has been finished in a bark effect design. Measuring approximately 3.25 inches by 2.75 inches, this lovely piece of real silver jewellery would make a great fastener for an edge to edge style cardigan or a super 'get you noticed' buckle on a modern belt. You would get English Regency style and appeal with this at a fraction of the cost! This real silver buckle would shine up if you wanted it to look like new. I have not cleaned it much as I believe the patina adds depth to the design and adds to the item's antique appeal.
