Sterling Silver 'VIOLET' Name Brooch - Edwardian period Hallmarked 1910 Sold
SORRY THIS NAME PIN IS SOLD
This is a very pretty name and a very pretty antique name pin! Here we have a silver bar type name brooch hallmarked in Birmingham for the year 1910. The brooch also has the maker's mark of 'AEW' which was used by the silversmith Arnold E. Williams. This bar brooch is plain and simple with the upper case letters spelling out the name 'VIOLET' in relief. There is a little engraved decoration on the front of the brooch also. On the reverse are the silver hallmarks and the brooch fastens with an old fashioned 'c' type clasp and is in good condition for its age. Name brooches were a great favourite with Victorian and Edwardian ladies. These old brooches and pins started out as name badges for the staff in large country houses and later became popular sweetheart brooches. Many were made in Birmingham, England's jewellery quarter, and they are becoming most fashionable again with the resurgence of lovely old names that were popular in the 19th and early 20th Century.
