SOLD Micro Mosaic Brooch - Circa 1900 - Superb example

This remarkable antique brooch is incredibly beautiful and detailed.   Dating from the beginning of the 20th Century this pin has been hand made with the application of tiny glass tiles to make a superb design.  The shape is oval and the pin sits equally nicely in a landscape or a portrait position for two distinct looks. Measuring 3cms by 2.5cms yet it has hundreds or individual pieces of glass in its pattern.  Colours include white, pink, turquoise, green, black, yellow and blue. The random floral pattern at the centre is slightly raided up and shows a random mix of flowers and leaves reminiscent of a ditsy floral fabric.  The design then takes on a more formal style with a black outline within an oval border of gilt metal. Around this are positioned four half circles in red with a white fan shaped design within positioned within tiled edges in blue, black and white. The extremely tiny sizes of some of the tiles shows the skill of the master jewellers who created this tiny works of art.  The design is mounted in an open gold coloured filigree mount with balls and curves which makes a pretty frame for this floral picture.  This brooch is in very good condition. This antique micro mosaic brooch has a gold tone mount and fastens with an old fashioned wide 'c' type clasp. The word 'Italy' is stamped on the back as proof of its heritage.
