Lea Stein’s Cat pins are always fabulous and this Cat’s Face Brooch is no exception! The colour is so vibrant - it is a riotous red with a shiny small rectangular pattern to contrast. This contemporary cat pin has black ears and eyes  with the pupil of the eyes over-painted with a cream stripe.  This Cat pin is made of Rhodoid, a type of early plastic, so is light and easy to wear.  This contemporary  brooch will be snapped up by a collector for sure!  The brooch has the classic Lea Stein signature on its white metal pin, which fastens with a secure roll over type clasp. The reverse laminate is almost like the skin of a golden reptile with black inset pieces.  There is a small white blemish on the reverse which has obviously occurred during the making process; it doesn't detract in any way and is mentioned so you are aware.  This Cat brooch measures 2.5 inches by almost 2 inches and is layered.  This Cat has character and it is easy to see why it is one of the popular designs from Lea Stein.  Here is more about her work.....

LEA STEIN was born in Paris in 1931 and worked as a dress designer. She began making her now famous Jewellery when her husband, Fernand Steinberger, ( a Plastics Chemist ) discovered a process of laminating cellulose acetate to create a unique range of colours & patterns.

Buttons for her frocks were their first products; followed by brooches, bangles and earrings. The factory was forced to close in the 1980’s but has since re-opened much to the relief of costume jewellery collectors and Lea Stein fans. Lea Stein loves to produce designs based on animals and flowers. Now she is quite an elderly lady but still introduces a couple of new designs each year.

Each brooch has the trademark ‘V’ shaped pin on the back and is signed: ‘LEA STEIN PARIS’. The manufacturing process used means that no two pieces are exactly alike. The fabulous designs, the ease of wearing and their quirky appeal are just some of the reasons why they are so collected around the world today.
