SOLD A Lea Stein Cat Brooch- Collectable Cat Pin Copper and Black Lurex
The colour of this Lea Stein cat made it difficult to photograph as every light seemed to reflect from the copper tones and each different background gave it a different look! The pattern is black and copper with little lines and it looks like a Lurex type fabric encapsulated between the layers to great effect. The cat's ears and eyes are ivorine and cream coloured whilst the reverse of the brooch is mostly black with just a little of the black and copper colour and one cream ear showing. This Lea Stein cat pin has the traditional white metal back pin with secure roll over type clasp and the all important Lea Stein, Paris signature. Condition is excellent, size is 3 inches by almost 2 inches. Made from Rhodoid or cellulose acetate this brooch is light and sits very well on all fabrics. Lea Stein's whimsical jewellery is a firm favourite all round and has been featured in magazines and on TV. Her story is an interesting one...
LEA STEIN was born in Paris in 1931 and worked as a dress designer. She began making her now famous Jewellery when her husband, Fernand Steinberger, ( a Plastics Chemist ) discovered a process of laminating cellulose acetate to create a unique range of colours & patterns.

Buttons for her frocks were their first products; followed by brooches, bangles and earrings. The factory was forced to close in the 1980’s but has since re-opened much to the relief of costume jewellery collectors and Lea Stein fans. Lea Stein loves to produce designs based on animals and flowers. Now she is quite an elderly lady but still introduces a couple of new designs each year.
Each brooch has the trademark ‘V’ shaped pin on the back and is signed: ‘LEA STEIN PARIS’. The manufacturing process used means that no two pieces are exactly alike. The fabulous designs, the ease of wearing and their quirky appeal are just some of the reasons why they are so collected around the world today.
