SOLD. A Corolle Brooch by Lea Stein of Paris - Ditsy Liberty Fabric Flower Collar
This Flapper girl brooch looks as if she dates from the 1920s but she is a contemporary design from the famous Paris factory of Lea Stein. This brooch is known as 'Corelle' The lady has a pretty collar or ruff like a half flower with scored detail. The half flower on this brooch has a delightful ditsy Liberty floral print fabric within. This Art Deco style Lady brooch is just delightful, pretty and perfect! It’s also technically clever as to achieve this effect is not easy but Lea Stein masters this to perfection! The use of a fabric layer within the layers of cellulose acetate adds a wonderful, country charm to this pin. Colours in the fabric are pinks, apricots, reds and green on a cream ground. She wears a neat little bathing cap type hat in pink with a pink, peppermint and white striped and layered detail to the side. Her face is ivory with a black star for her eye. She has the charm of a Pierette. Made from cellulose acetate or rhodoid the pin is very light and easy to wear and will sit well on all fabrics. The reverse of this brooch has a silver tone metal pin with the all important Lea Stein Paris signature and the laminate on the reverse is patterned in orange, brown and Ivory. This retro brooch is in excellent condition and measures 6.5 cms by 4.5 cms at its widest points.
LEA STEIN was born in Paris in 1931 and worked as a dress designer. She began making her now famous Jewellery when her husband, Fernand Steinberger, ( a Plastics Chemist ) discovered a process of laminating cellulose acetate to create a unique range of colours & patterns.

Buttons for her frocks were their first products; followed by brooches, bangles and earrings. The factory was forced to close in the 1980’s but has since re-opened much to the relief of costume jewellery collectors and Lea Stein fans. Lea Stein loves to produce designs based on animals and flowers. Now she is quite an elderly lady but still introduces a couple of new designs each year.
Each brooch has the trademark ‘V’ shaped pin on the back and is signed: ‘LEA STEIN PARIS’. The manufacturing process used means that no two pieces are exactly alike. The fabulous designs, the ease of wearing and their quirky appeal are just some of the reasons why they are so collected around the world today.
