SOLD 19 th Century carved Mother-of-Pearl Buckle
This lovely chunky buckle has been hand-carved from shell and has all the lustrous glow that you get from natural mother-of-pearl with a definite pinky tint in some lights. Dating from the Victorian era, this buckle is a "thread-on" type suitable for a ribbon belt. It measures approximately 4.5cms (almost 2ins) at its very widest point and has an aperture for threading through a ribbon of 2cms ( a little under 1inch) in width. it would also work as a scarf slide for a very slim pashmina or thin silk scarf. If you collect buckles and buttons this would make a nice addition to your collection.
