(SOLD) A Green Butterfly Brooch - Large Lea Stein Butterfly Pin

This gorgeous green butterfly brooch is the work of Lea Stein of Paris and is a contemporary design introduced in the last few years. This butterfly pin shows all the reasons that Lea Stein's designs are so loved. The brooch has been made of layers of laminated cellulose acetate. This design is crisp and eye catching. The main colour palette is Green. The wings have a pearly shell-like pale green reminiscent of seashells which is reflective and iridescent and a rich darker green like crushed velvet. The body has a simple, tapered shape with striped shiny layers of green,red and black. To the reverse it is finished in simple plain black. These wings are superb ensuring that the colour mix works with so many backgrounds making this a brooch to wear on many colours and through all seasons.There is a white metal pin bearing the 'Lea Stein, Paris' mark and it fastens with a roll over type clasp. Size is 75mms by 75mms at the widest parts. Lea Stein is well known for her vintage brooches and vintage jewellery and this is her story...

LEA STEIN was born in Paris in 1931 and worked as a dress designer. She began making her now famous Jewellery when her husband, Fernand Steinberger, ( a Plastics Chemist ) discovered a process of laminating cellulose acetate to create a unique range of colours & patterns.

Buttons for her frocks were their first products; followed by brooches, bangles and earrings. The factory was forced to close in the 1980’s but has since re-opened much to the relief of costume jewellery collectors and Lea Stein fans. Lea Stein loves to produce designs based on animals and flowers. Now she is quite an elderly lady but still introduces a couple of new designs each year.

Each brooch has the trademark ‘V’ shaped pin on the back and is signed: ‘LEA STEIN PARIS’. The manufacturing process used means that no two pieces are exactly alike. The fabulous designs, the ease of wearing and their quirky appeal are just some of the reasons why they are so collected around the world today.
