Silver Gilt Enamel Filigree Butterfly Brooch (Sold)
Delicate and pretty this handmade silver butterfly brooch has a gilded finish - known as Vermeil. The outer frame of this butterfly brooch is good and sturdy with the delicate wires within the frame giving a lacey look. There are dots of enamel on the wings of the butterfly in turquoise blue and navy blue whilst the body of the butterfly is in soft green with turquoise blue and the head is mauve enamel with red eyes. This handmade brooch is nicely worked and is simply marked 'SILVER' on the back. It is in very good condition and the pin fastens with a secure roll over clasp. The butterfly brooch measures 6cms by 4cms. The use of filigree work in jewellery goes back to antiquity but I would estimate that this butterfly pin dates from the 1970's onwards although the subject matter and the colours used for the enamels gives it a Retro Art Nouveau look.
