Silver and Marcasite Naval Crown Brooch Pin - Vintage Hallmarked 1965 (SOLD)
This is a beautiful brooch depicting a Naval Crown, the emblem used by the British Royal Navy. This vintage crown pin may well have been a sweetheart brooch given by a sailor to his love. The Navy Crown was first used in Roman times and it depicts ship's sails and sterns cleverly arranged in a crown shape. This vintage brooch is made of sterling silver set with lots of bright cut marcasite stones in varying sizes. The brooch is in excellent condition with all stones present. The naval crown brooch bears the makers marks 'S & Co.' it also has the Lion passant to show it is Sterling Silver, the Birmingham Anchor hallmark with the date letter 'p' indicating it was assayed in 1965. This marcasite brooch measures 3.5 cms by 1.75 cms and is in excellent condition. It fastens with a secured roll over type clasp.
