Red Crystal Brooch Chromed Metal - 1930's - Art Deco Cut Glass Jewels (SOLD)
This is a Vintage Christmas Brooch - it has that gorgeous bright red colour and bags of sparkle all round! Dating from the 1930s this piece of vintage costume jewellery was most probably made in Czechoslavakia where jewellery of this kind was expertly crafted by hand. There are 9 large octagonal table cut glass crystal jewels intersperced with 18 smaller round facet cut glass gems. The larger jewels are held in place with substantial chrome claws and sit in open chrome cups. The smaller jewels have tiny claws and filled in cups to hold them in place. The use of chromed metal for costume and imitation jewellery in the Art Deco 1930s era was all the rage as white metals like Platinum were favoured for holding diamonds and other precious stones in place in 'real' jewellery. This bright warm red brooch has been particularly hard to photograph - it is a strong scarlet red in colour - not the ruby or claret garnet colour it seems to appear in some of the photos. The round brooch measures 45cms in diameter, fastening with an old fashioned 'c' type clasp. This vintage brooch is in excellent condition with no chips to the glass jewels and all the chromed metal in great shape. It would be perfect to add to a collection of vintage brooches from the 1930s.
