Rare Double Layer Vintage Lucite Brooch - Early 1950s (SOLD)

It is hard to find the collectable vintage lucite brooches with two layers - for every 50 you see one of this type.    The thick layer of clear acrylic plastic has been reverse carved with two flower heads and leaves.  The flowers and leaves are coloured - in the case of this vintage brooch with a pink for the flowers and a tobacco colour for the leaves and then a soft blue acrylic layer is fused to the back of the brooch.   This vintage early fifties brooch has a most unusual shape too.  It is a rectangle with three of the four corners angle cut to give it a kite like shape overall.  The angle cutting gives reflection to the colours and the overall effect is most pleasing.  This brooch is in excellent condition with a silver tone 'c' clasp pin to the reverse.  It is 1 cm thick and measures 3.5 by 3.5 cms.

This  vintage pin is a great collectable for anyone interested in Bakelite era and early plastics .  Lucite was Dupont's trade name for their acrylic plastic material which they patented in the 1930's and is usually the name given to brooches and pins of this type.  The most common theme for them is flowers, some abstract and Art Deco in design, others very detailed - so you can tell exactly which flower is being depicted!   Vintage Lucite brooches are  usually see through so this one is very different and will always show the colour of its flowers and leaves - perfect to put on a pink frock and still get maximum  impact!
