Pearl, Silver and Marcasite Bar Brooch Circa 1910 - 1920 (SOLD)
Antique silver, pearl and marcasite jewellery is always so wearable. Natural pearls have a rich lustre and glow and this gorgeous Blister pearl or half pearl is no exception. It is white with hints of pink and grey and sits well flanked by two half flowers set with marcasites. To complete this elegant and simple brooch there are individual stem set marcasites at the top and bottom of the pearl and the whole decorative centre is on a classic silver bar pin. This brooch would hold a shawl in place or would also fasten an edge to edge wrap or cardigan neatly together. Bar pins of this type were fashionable in the first quarter of the 20th century and this lovely brooch dates from around 1910 to 1920. It is in very good condition and is by the Birmingham maker Thomas L. Mott. It is marked with the intitials TLM and Sterling England. The blister pearl is quarter of an inch in diameter and the brooch measures 2.75 inches in length and is half an inch wide at its middle anad widest point. This antique brooch fastens into a guarded safety pin type clasp.
