Lupins Pin - 1940s Hand embroidered Brooch (Sold)
This floral brooch illustrates four naturalistic lupins , not as a bouquet, but growing. The flowers are picked out in shades of purple, yellow, orange, blue and magenta pink with contrasting middles, and the leaves and stems are green making a very pretty and realistic picture. This has a 1940's feel about it and is like many of the lovely hand-worked tablecloths, tray cloths and napkins of that time. The linen background is a cream colour and the embroidery has a skillful textured effect. This is a larger sized brooch measuring approximately 3 inches (7.5cms) by 2 inches (5cms) the work is mounted in a silver coloured chromed oval gallery with a dotted patterned border mounted with a fleur de lys shape at the top and bottom. There is a clear plastic front protecting the embroidery. This brooch is in excellent condition with only the brass metal pin showing any signs of age. The back has a secure rollover 'C' type clasp and pin mount in brass metal. Embroidered and hand-made brooches were made in quantity during the 'make-do-and-mend' years of world war two and they remained popular throughout the 1940's, 1950's and 1960's. You could also buy kits with threads, pre-printed designs on fabric and the necessary mounts to complete your piece of jewellery. This would be lovely to wear or add to your collection of Vintage Flower pins or old needlework.
