Lucite Brooch 1940s/1950s with Red Roses (Sold)

Two beautiful open red roses with a partially open bloom and a bud decorate this fab vintage brooch.  The red roses along with four green leaves have been expertly carved into the reverse of this lucite brooch from the 1940s - 1950s era.  Around the rim of this vintage pin is a circle and dot border. This type of brooch is becoming increasingly collected after a group of Lucite brooches appeared on the BBC's TV Programme - Antiques Roadshow. Lucite is Dupont's Trade name for their acrylic plastic which they patented in 1936.  ICI used the name Perspex for their similar material.  In the Jewellery trade the name ' Lucite' is favoured for all acrylic pieces as it was the most widely coined term for American Jewelry. Lucite brooches from the 1930s, 1940's and 1950's are becoming firm favourites with collectors.    It is easy to see why they appeal - every carved brooch  has been hand produced so there are natural variations in the style and design, the material is light making the brooches very easy to wear.  The 'see-through' nature of the Lucite makes the brooch take on a different appearance when pinned onto various coloured clothes. This vintage lucite brooch is mounted on a goldtone back pin which fastens with a 'c' type clasp. It measures approximately 1.5 inches in diameter and is almost half an inch thick.  It is in excellent order and is a more unusual style with its extra rim.  Perfect to wear or to add to a collection of early plastic jewellery.
