Little Sycamore Leaf Brooch signed Exquisite -1960's era (SOLD)
This is a great piece of vintage jewellery - a small size Sycamore Leaf pin signed by 'Exquisite'. The leaves are two tone colours with a smattering of brown over the green and four little 'keys' or seeds picked out in yellow on brown cold enamel. The whole thing is so detailed and realistic that you feel you could cast one of the little keys into the air and watch it spin around as it falls to the ground! There is a soft goldtone metal finish to the branch and to the reverse of the brooch where the 'Exquisite' signature is present but not that easy to see. The brooch which measures around 1.5 inches by 1 ins, fastens with a secure roll over type clasp. This piece is from the Birmingham manufacturer W.A.P. Watson who were the owners of the 'Exquisite' brand. I have been advised that the Company made costume jewellery from 1914 - 1970 but I have not found any written evidence to prove this information. However, it is certain that the designs of their popular 'Trees of the month' range of jewellery was protected by design registration in the early 1960s. They made these pins in two sizes and I also have the larger sized version of this leaf for sale. It would be so lovely to wear both together on a vintage jacket and either or both would be a jolly addition to your costume jewellery collection!
