Little Vintage Embroidered Cottage Brooch with Orange Roof (SOLD)

This brooch  is  typical of the 1940's /1950's style, the kind of design that features on some of the lovely hand-worked tablecloths, tray cloths and napkins as well as things like biscuit tins and magazine covers of that time.  Here we have a little thatched cottage with smoke coming out of its chimney!  The bright orange roof makes this a bit like some of the gorgeous ceramic designs that Clarice Cliff introduced in the Art Deco era. There are a couple of neat little brown 'wood' framed windowssome pastel coloured flowers and grass in the foreground.  I think the background fabric may well be linen or cotton, it is pale natural colour. The embroidery is somewhat naive, a bit like a little child's drawing; it is obviously done by hand. Measuring approximately 1.5 inches in diameter the work is mounted in a silver tone metal round shaped gallery with a smooth edge.  There is a clear plastic front protecting the embroidery.  The back has a secure rollover 'C' type clasp and pin mount.  Embroidered and hand-made brooches were made in quantity during the 'make-do-and-mend' years of world war two and they remained popular throughout the 1940's, 1950's and 1960's.  You could also buy kits with threads, pre-printed designs on fabric and the necessary mounts to complete your piece of jewellery. This would be lovely to wear or add to your collection of Vintage brooches or old needlework.
