Kimdoo the Terrier by Lea Stein of Paris - Special Musical version! (Sold)
Here is a particularly special version of Lea Stein's Kimdoo the terrier dog brooch. This version shows him in his little winter jacket but it is a special muscial version in black over printed with creamy white musical notes and a treble clef! The appealing terrier dog is made in a marbled pearl effect finish, just like creamy mother of pearl. He has his ears pricked up and is so alert with his little black eye and shiny red nose. Kimdoo the terrier pin is made of Rhodoid, a type of early plastic, so is light and easy to wear. This contemporary brooch is in excellent order. On the reverse, this brooch is plain cream in colour with just an edge of black where the jacket overlaps, it is layered, like most of Lea Stein's brooches. The brooch has the classic 'Lea Stein Paris' signature on its white metal pin, which fastens with a secure roll over type clasp. This dog brooch measures 3 inches by 2 inches at its widest points.
Some information about the designer.......LEA STEIN was born in Paris in 1931 and worked as a dress designer. She began making her now famous Jewellery when her husband, Fernand Steinberger, ( a Plastics Chemist ) discovered a process of laminating cellulose acetate to create a unique range of colours & patterns.
Buttons for her frocks were their first products; followed by brooches, bangles and earrings. The factory was forced to close in the 1980’s but has since re-opened much to the relief of costume jewellery collectors and Lea Stein fans. Lea Stein loves to produce designs based on animals and flowers. Now she is quite an elderly lady but still introduces a couple of new designs each year.
Each brooch has the trademark ‘V’ shaped pin on the back and is signed: ‘LEA STEIN PARIS’. The manufacturing process used means that no two pieces are exactly alike. The fabulous designs, the ease of wearing and their quirky appeal are just some of the reasons why they are so collected around the world today.
