Gertrude Edwardian Name Brooch Sterling Silver Date 1902

Here we have a little hallmarked Sterling Silver fancy bar brooch bearing the name “GERTRUDE”. The letters are in upper case font on a swirling curved banner decorated with applied balls and extra engraving. Either side to the top and bottom is a good sized, detailed  Forget-Me-Not flower; a sentimental declaration of love. This brooch has a registered design mark on it No 258185, was hallmarked in Chester in 1902 making it Edwardian. There are the letters A.J.C as the maker's marks and these are from the Birmingham Silversmiths Alfred James Cheshire whose workshops were in Tenby Street North in Birmingham at that time.  The brooch is a small size, being 4cms by 2cms at its longest and widest points. To give you a better idea of the size one of my photos shows the name brooch with a new £1 coin.   To the reverse we have a pin with a 'C' style closure. This Gertrude name brooch is in very good condition with slight surface marks and patina indicative of an antique piece of jewellery.
