FLORENCE-Victorian Name Brooch - Chester Hallmarked 1891 (SOLD)
The design of this late Victorian antique silver name pin is a little different to the usual bar brooch or open pierced round name brooches usually found. This FLORENCE name pin is in hallmarked sterling silver and was assayed in Chester in 1891. The name 'FLORENCE' is picked out in applied upper case lettering on an rectanagular background. The silver on this lovely antique brooch has been engraved in an oval around the letters of the name. It also has a scalloped pattern decorating the rim with some ball decorations to each edge as well. Made of sterling silver this Victorian name pin is in excellent order. The Florence name brooch measures approx 3.5cms by 1.5cms approx.
I never overclean antique brooches as collectors often want their Victorian or Edwardian jewellery to look as if it has some age! This would clean up bright and shiny with a silver cleaner if you wanted it to look like new!
Name brooches were a great favourite with Victorian and Edwardian ladies. These old brooches and pins started out as name badges for the staff in large country houses and later became popular sweetheart brooches. Many were made in Birmingham, England's jewellery quarter, and they are becoming most fashionable again with the resurgence of lovely old names that were popular in the 19th and early 20th Century.
