Exquisite Sycamore Pin 1960's - signed leaf brooch
This is a great piece of vintage jewellery - a Sycamore Leaf pin signed by 'Exquisite'. The leaves are two tone colours with a central russet brown middle over the green edges to the leaves. There are four little double 'keys' or seeds picked out in caramel brown and yellow cold enamel. The whole thing is so detailed and realistic that you feel you could cast one of the little keys into the air and watch it spin around as it falls to the ground! There is a soft goldtone metal finish to the branch and to the reverse of the brooch where the 'Exquisite' signature is present and very easy to see. The brooch measures around 2.25 inches by 2.25 ins, fastens with a secure roll over type clasp. This piece is from the Birmingham manufacturer W.A.P. Watson who were the owners of the 'Exquisite' brand. I have been advised that the Company made costume jewellery from 1914 - 1970 but I have not found any written evidence to prove this information. However, it is certain that the designs of their popular 'Trees of the month' range of jewellery was protected by design registration in the early 1960s. They made these pins in two sizes and this is the larger sized version of this leaf. It would be so lovely to wear both together on a vintage jacket and either or both would be a jolly addition to your costume jewellery collection!
