Embroidered Crinoline Lady in Garden Brooch - 1940s - 1950s hand-made (Sold)

This sweet aged crinoline lady brooch is a perfect example of late 1940's to early 1950's hand-embroided jewellery. The fashion for crinoline ladies meant that they were seen all over... adorning tea sets and crockery, decorating stationery, chocolate boxes and biscuit tins. Naturally they were a good design for hand sewing and are to be found on cushions, tablecloths, tray cloths and brooches like this. Maybe the film 'Gone with the Wind' which came out in 1939 was partly responsible for the craze!

On this brooch the lady  is browsing her garden. She has been worked  on a plain cream linen type fabric and the person creating this little sewn picture has shown goodattention to detail. Our crinoline lady has a purple pink layered frock and a picture bonnet with a lwhite lace collar and cuffs.  She appears to be carrying a few flower blooms picked from her herbaceous border where there is a hollyhock or two and some other flowers and leaves! This oval brooch is set in a plain polished chrome finished frame.  This nice old brooch is in very good condition. It measures 2.25 inches by 1.5 inches and it fastens with a roll-over type clasp.
