Designer Exquisite Blue Jewelled Flower Costume Brooch - Vintage 1950s - 1960s

This brooch is typical of designer statement jewellery that you see in all the best books about collecting antique and vintage costume jewellery. I would imagine it is a late 1950s or early 1960s piece; having been influenced by the Mods or Flower Power era.   It is in very good vintage condition presented on its original card marked with the designer range “Exquisite” and a declaration that the jewels have been “Hand Claw Set”. It is an unusual piece for the English Exquisite range which is better known for its hand-enamelled floral and tree jewellery. This brooch uses foiled facet cut lead glass crystals. The stones are all in rich, deep and pale shades of blue.  The central round blue glass stone is a just under half an inch in diameter.  It is held in place by a four individual claws; there are a further twelve marquise shaped blue glass crystals stones which make up the petals of the daisy type flower and other various shapes are used to make floral and foliage details joining up to a golden curved stem. Vintage Brooches from this era were often hand assembled with every claw being shut by hand in much the same way that precious stones and diamonds are set.  The  diameter of the flower on this vintage brooch is 1.5 inches with a 2.5 inches length overall so it has a nice size and good impact. The brooch fastens with a long pin and a simple “c” type clasp.  This brooch would be perfect to wear and would hold its own in a collection of designer signed “Exquisite” vintage jewellery. It has been particularly difficult for me to get the exact colours right in the photos but I am sure that this vintage costume brooch will delight who ever purchases it.
