Deep Carved Bakelite Rose Brooch on Chromed Filigree Panel1930 to 1940
This is a really sweet and pretty little brooch. It has a shiny chromed back panel with a hand carved amber colour rose on. The yellow bakelite rose has every petal and layer finely detailed. This hand-carved Rose brooch is a good example of Bakelite jewelery from the 1930's and 1940's. Originally the rose on this this pin would have been Cream in colour with the Bakelite used to imitate Ivory or Bone. Over the 60 plus years that this piece of jewellery has been around it has oxidised to a warm, rich amber colour - just the thing that Bakelite collectors look out for! The rose is deep-carved and is approximately 1.75 cms in diameter and a bit more than half a cm thick at its biggest point. It is in very good condition. The Chrome pierced Filigree back plate is shiny with leaves, curlicues and dot patterns. It has a pin and 'c' type fastener to the back. It's light enough to sit nicely on a hat or scarf so is a very versatile little brooch.
