Cold Enamel Violets Necklace from Exquisite - Birthday Necklace for March - 1960's(SOLD)
This is a rare find indeed! Many collectors will be familiar with the delightful floral brooches produced by the Solilhull, Birmingham based jewellery company W.A.P. Watson under their brand name 'Exquisite' and this necklace is one of their pieces. It is not signed but it has the classic 'Exquisite' bow as part of the design - as a tag on the end of the necklace where it fastens. This necklace dates from the early 1960's when costume jewellery of this type was all the rage! This superb Cold Enamel Violets necklace would have complimented Exquisite's range of Birthday Flower and Leaf rooches introduced and extremely popular during the 1960's. The pins came in two sizes with a flower for every month of the year! The Company also had a range of Leaf pins and matching earrings, as well as many other lines in quality costume jewellery. The Violet is the flower for the month of March and I have a couple of the brooches on my webshop if you would like to take a look or purchase one to match this vintage necklace. Suspended on an anodised aluminium chain the necklace has a soft gold tone finish and there are ten single violet flowers with a bud and three leaves all hand painted with green and purple cold enamel. It is in good vintage condition with no damage to the enamel. The only signs of wear are on the bow tag and the hook where it has been handled but they are robust and function perfectly. The necklace measures a total of 17 inches in length but because of the hook style clasp you can vary the length by hooking through to make it a choker or slightly longer to suit the outline of your outfit. What a great gift for anyone who has a March Birthday or the name Violet. Mind you anyone would enjoy this necklace - it would be particularly lovely to wear it in the springtime!
