Chrome Framed Brooch with Cigarette Silk Embroidery circa 1930s - 1940s (SOLD)
This is a pretty vintage brooch with a very nice detailed old silk embroidery of blue bell flowers and foliage. The embroidery is, however, a machine made rather than hand made piece and was once given away with cigarettes. Many people are familiar with cigarette cards which showed pictures of things like birds, flowers, flags, vehicles etc. These were collected and then mounted into albums. In the early days of promotional activity many cigarette companies used small silk embroideries instead of cards as their giveaway and this is what is in this lovely old antique brooch. The flower embroidery has been mounted in a chrome frame with a rope twist border. This oval shaped brooch is in excellent condition and measures 2.75 inches by 1.75 inches approximately. It fastens with a secure roll over type clasp.
