Bowl of Fruit- Very Bloomsbury - Hand-Embroidered Pin - Circa 1940s
This lovely round hand-embroidered brooch depicting a bowl of fruit is delightful. The design really reminds me of the art of The Bloomsbury Set because of the design, its colour palette and the bounty of the fruit! In perfect miniature we have a simple, toned blue pottery bowl overflowing with ripe grapes still with vine leaves, a fat dappled pear with a red fruit behind, an apple and a lemon coloured fruit to the front. It has been carefully yet naively executed with not a scrap of backing fabric on show. It is a little brooch in size being just 1.5 inches in diameter - small and sweet! Offered in very good condition the brooch has a plain chromed metal rim, an early clear plastic covering to protect the embroidery. The back is also chromedwith a pin guarded with a secure C shaped rollover clasp.
