Bold Embroidered Brooch - Mixed Flowers on Black Background - 1940s and 1950s Vintage Brooch
This hand-embroidered brooch shows an assortment of blooms including three roses, five daisies and lots of nice green leaves and stems. This vintage brooch is in a typical 1940's /1950's style, the kind of design that features on so many of the lovely hand-worked tablecloths, tray cloths and napkins of that time. The linen background is black and the brightly coloured embroidery is somewhat naive and obviously done by hand. Measuring approximately 2.5 inches (6.5cms) by 1.75 inches (5cms) the work is mounted in a white metal oval shaped gallery with a rope edge pattern. There is a clear plastic front protecting the embroidery. The back has a secure rollover 'C' type clasp and pin mount. Embroidered and hand-made brooches were made in quantity during the 'make-do-and-mend' years of world war two and they remained popular throughout the 1940's, 1950's and 1960's. You could also buy kits with threads, pre-printed designs on fabric and the necessary mounts to complete your piece of jewellery. This would be lovely to wear or add to your collection of Vintage Flower pins or old needlework.
