BERTHA Silver Name Brooch - Bertha - Late Victorian Edwardian

This name brooch for BERTHA is made of unmarked silver and dates from the late Victorian into the early Edwardian era ( Circa 1890s - 1910 ).  The plain capital letters have been applied to the silver background which has a decorative border and engraved lines, flowers and foliage.  In very good condition, this BERTHA name brooch measures approximately 4 by 1.5 cms it fastens with an old fashioned 'c' type clasp and is in good condition for its age.    Name brooches were a great favourite with Victorian and Edwardian ladies.  These old brooches and pins started out as name badges for the staff in large country houses and later became popular sweetheart brooches.  Many were made in Birmingham, England's jewellery quarter, and they are becoming most fashionable again with the resurgence of lovely old names that were popular in the 19th and early 20th Century.
