BABY Victorian Baby Brooch - Sterling Silver with Rose Gold (SOLD)
An English Victorian 'Baby' pin of the best quality, this antique brooch benefits from the lettering being applied to the Sterling silver in 9ct rose gold. The brooch itself bears the Birmingham hallmark for 1881. That assay mark consists of the lion passant with the date letter 'y' for 1881 and the anchor to show that this lovely antique brooch was hallmarked in Birmingham. The makers' mark is also nice and clear and it is 'WAL'. This Victorian brooch is 130 years old and is is superb condition. The pin part is steel and it slips into a guarded end closure. It is great that the pin point is guarded as these brooches were pinned onto the gowns of tiny babies and were the kind of jewelry often gifted and worn for Christenings. With Victorian silver jewellery getting more sought after this is a true gem! With a lozenge shape this brooch has an engraved pattern on the top surface under the gold baby letters and then the design steps down to another level with a ball beaded decoration and finally there is a fluted pattern around the outside at the lowest layer. These Victorian name and baby brooches make great contemporary gifts and they also look well on the gowns of 19th Century dolls so would appeal to doll collectors too.
