Art Deco 1930s Small Evening Purse Encrusted with Beadwork (SOLD)
This is a delightful little beaded purse dating from the Art Deco period around 1930 to about 1935. The purse is encrusted with glass beads which have been hand stitched in place. There are literally hundreds of tiny white glass seed beads with long frosted glass rocailles and silver grey rocailles too. The back of this purse is plain white with just a border picked out in the frosted and silver grey beads. The front of this sweet little 1930's purse has stylised round Art Deco flowers and leaves decorating it. This vintage purse measures 6.25 by 3 inches. The beadwork is bright and clean and intact. Inside the purse there is a cream coloured lining material with a self pocket containing a mirror. There is a little discolouring to the lining but this is commensurate with its age and it generally seen in any vintage or antique bag that has been used in the past. It doesn't detract in any way from this little bag's beauty or usefulness. There is a flapover top to this Art Deco beadwork purse and the fastens with an original old press stud. This type of collectable bead work was often produced in France or Belgium in the 1920s and 1930s. The hand beadwork carried out there in the Art Deco period was exquisite and I would guess that this 1930s Deco bag originated in France or Belgium. This purse would make a great bridal accessory for a vintage wedding as it is so pretty.
