Antique Carved Bone Rose Pendant(Small Size) on New Silver Chain (SOLD)
This Rose pendant has been hand-carved in bone and has then been gently colour-washed with apricot pink to give it a 'blush'. The small open rose bloom measures 2cms by 2 cms approx and is in good condition. This kind of work was common in the 19th Century with the Victorians loving all kinds of hand carved work. Antique jewellery was carved in the form of animals, leaves and flowers all over the globe. It continued to be popular throughout the first half of the 20th Century with many souvenir pieces being carved from bone, ivory, wood, bakelite and early plastics. I would estimate that this necklace dates from the first half of the 20th Century. The deep carved Rose pendant has a bone loop connecting it to its chain. It is on a new very fine sterling silver chain which measures 18 inches and fastens with a bolt ring type clasp.
