Antique Brass Belt Buckle - Large Size - Classical Warriors

This is a larger sized most unusual two-piece buckle which hooks together in the centre.  This antique buckle has a classical design where the two featured warriors face each other. I’m not sure if they are Greeks, Romans or Medieval Europeans but they are handsome and very decorative.  They have helmets, are bearded and the neckline of their tunics is also visible. There is so much detail on this pressed metal buckle. There are flower heads and curved leaves too all sitting on an open work golden trellis which is definitely 19th century design.  The buckle appears to be made of gilded brass. It will appeal to buckle and button collectors and to anyone looking to add a spectacular buckle to a special belt.  I would think the piece dates from circa 1890s to the beginning of the 20th Century and it measures a good size being 10cm long, 6cm wide with a rise of 1.5cm where the warrior heads sit in relief on top of the buckle at each side. It's in exceptionally good order for an antique item of this period and has built up a lovely patina. I think this piece is likely to be continental European in origin - possibly French.
