An Oval Antique Micro Mosaic Brooch Circa 1880s to 1900
Dating from the last quarter of the 19th Century this Italian Micro Mosaic Brooch has a sentimental theme - it has a cluster of tiny Forget-me-knot flowers to its centre. Made up of lots of very tiny glass tiles held in place between twisted rope effect wires, this piece is a great example of the skill of the jewellers of this time. The little tiles or 'tesserae' sit in a gold-tone frame to make up areas of pattern within an over metal cup mount with a rope twist border. The centre of this oval brooch shows eight individual forget-me-knots nestled into a background of perfect little leaves which have graduated colours from yellow to green within a white tile border. Around this are eight half circles of tiles in twisted gold metal borders. The colours are turquoise blue, pink and white with the designs in open fan shapes. This super antique brooch is in the Florentine style and is in very good condition. There is possibly the loss of a couple of tiles but this doesn't detract from the beauty of this antique miniature work of art. This pretty brooch measures just over 2cms by 3cms and there is a pound coin in one of the photos to show the size. The brooch fastens with an old fashioned 'c' type hook to the back pin which is long.
