An Italian Micro Mosaic Brooch in the shape of a Shoe or Slipper

This is a perfect brooch in the form of a little slipper or shoe. This super brooch dates from the early part of the 20th Century and it is most likely Italian in origin.  This kind of micro mosaic jewellery has been hand made in Italy since Roman times with it becoming souvenir jewellery during the last 200 years.   Using a palette of bright coloured glass tiles or 'tessarae' the shoe has floral and leaf work and traditional Florentine panels to make up the design. The work on this brooch is particularly fine. The metal has a gold washed finish and there is twisted wire work within the shoe to create borders and depth. This delightful brooch fastens with an old fashioned 'c' type clasp and  pin.  This pretty slipper or shoe brooch measures almost 4cms long and is almost 1cm deep.
