Alexander Ritchie Iona Design Sterling Silver Celtic Beasts Brooch
Here is an interesting Sterling Silver Brooch decorated with intertwined Celtic Beasts. The reverse has a robust silver pin with a guarded rollover 'c' type closure and is plain apart from the Hallmarks. The brooch is English Sterling Silver made by the casting method, with pierced open work and it is in very good condition. The actual makers were the Birmingham based company Sydney and Co, as shown by the Makers mark of S & Co. They manufactured high quality silver items in Birmingham's Jewellery Quarter from 1901 to 1973. The brooch is from a design by Alexander Ritchie based on Iona Church. The piece carries a Birmingham hallmark for the year 1968 along with the lion passant to show it is Sterling. This brooch is offered in good condition. The dimensions are a little over 6 cms in length and 1.5 cms in width
