AEI- Amity, Eternity, Infinty - Sentimental Victorian Silver Pin- Circa 1860s - 1890's

This is a love token, a message that you will always care deeply about the person you gift it to - be it lover, friend or family.  The Victorian way of telling someone that you cared about them and hoped that this would be a forever bond. So this simple, small, round shaped Victorian  Brooch  packs a powerful message.  It is not hallmarked sterling silver but I believe it to be silver. 'AEI” for Amity, Eternity and Infinity in a puzzle form design. The brooch itself  has been arranged so that anyone viewing it has the fun of working out which name or letters are used and which sentiment they may convey.    Each individual letter has been cut out and is further decorated with various engraved patterns - a different one for each of the 3 letters. This antique silver sentimental brooch is typical of the puzzle pin designs found in Victorian name brooches of the 1860s to the 1890s. It is in the natural shape that the letters make with pierced and etched decoration. It is about the size of on old shilling coin just short of one inch each way. It is photographed with a current £1 coin to help you gauge the size.  To the reverse like all antique brooches of this period it fastens with a 'c' type clasp and has an extra long pin. This fabulous piece of original Victorian jewellery is in very good condition too. I never over clean antique brooches as collectors often want their Victorian or Edwardian jewellery to look as if it has some age to them. This would clean up bright and shiny with a silver cleaner if you wanted it to look like new!

Name brooches were a great favourite with Victorian and Edwardian ladies. These antique brooches and pins started out as name badges for the staff in large country houses and later became popular sweetheart brooches. Many were made in Birmingham, England's jewellery quarter, and they are becoming most fashionable again with the resurgence of lovely old names that were popular in the 19th and early 20th Century.
