A Victorian Sterling Silver Fob Medal - Large Size - Birmingham 1901
Here is a very large sized Victorian Sterling Silver watch fob medallion. This high quality and heavy fancy fob has pierced and engraved decorations to both sides. There is a different Shield shaped vacant cartouche on each side - one is the traditional shield shape with a ribbon underneath the other a squared shaped shield. The fob bears the silver hallmark for Birmingham 1901 as well as the maker's mark 'W.W.C" for William Walter Cashmore. These silver medal-like fobs were usually worn on watch chains and were also used as awards for sporting and academic achievement. They are often found with engraving which tells more about how they were used and why they were presented. this nice old silver fob medal has a vacant cartouche so is suitable for you to engrave your initials or other details if wished. The fob is in very good order with just the surface scratches you would expect on a piece of jewellery of this age. This silver fob measures 5cms by 3cms approx at its widest points and it also has its original oval silver bolt ring to attach it to a watch chain. The bolt ring has a lion mark, typical of items of the Victorian and Edwardian period.
