A Small Blister Pearl, Silver and Marcasite Brooch Circa 1910 - 1920
Antique silver, pearl and marcasite jewellery is always so wearable and timeless. Natural pearls have a rich lustre and glow and this gorgeous Blister pearl or half pearl is no exception. It is creamy with hints of pink and is encased in its own silver cup with a floral design as the centrepiece to this magnificent brooch. So the single pearl sits on top of an open work 935 fineness Silver brooch of scrolls, leaves, plus a flower at each end all set with natural marcasite jewels. The Marcasite is a silver coloured version of Iron Pyrites and is a perennial favourite for use in fine jewellery as it offers a soft sparkle. This elegant statement brooch which dates to the first twenty years of the twentieth century has a distinct transitional Art Deco appeal with many marcasites of different sizes set into its design. The blister pearl is quarter of an inch in diameter and the brooch measures 2.5 inches in length and is 1.25 inches wide at its middle and widest point. Offered in Excellent order this antique brooch fastens into a guarded rollover pin type clasp. The silver fineness mark '935' is clearly visible on the upper left side of the reversed near to the pin hinge. It is most likely continental European where this silver fineness was used in the early 20th Century.
