19th Century Micro Mosaic Floral Pin - Round Brooch, Exceptional Detail (SOLD)
This antique brooch is one of the finest kind with glass tiles making up flowers and leaves to the centre and a traditional feathered pattern in the Florentine style around the edges. It dates from the English Victorian period but it is most likely Italian in origin. This kind of micro mosaic jewellery has been hand made in Italy for almost 200 years and this little antique brooch is around 120 years old. Lots of tiny coloured glass tiles or 'tessarae' have been used to make up the design. It is extremely colourful too. There are flowers with touches of white, blue, caramel brown, and orangey red to the centre. Detailed shaped leaves in a dark green to one side and lighter greens to the other around the floral middle. The feathered and swirled ( almost look like little curled up snails!) design that frames this is in white, pink, green and turquoise blue with touches of black and a few specks of red. The work on this brooch is particularly fine. This lovely antique micro mosaic brooch is in very good order. The metal has a gold washed finish with etruscan style ball decoration around the outer edge. This delightful antique brooch fastens with an old fashioned 'c' type clasp and pin. In very good condition this brooch, which is round in shape, measures just 2.5cms in diameter.
