1970's Silver Brooch Badge - 'Rule Britannia' by Norman Grant (Sold)

Interesting and nostalgic this is a piece of jewellery for a truly patriotic Brit!  This heavy, well made disc shaped sterling silver brooch has a cast design of Britannia with her shield in the foreground decorated with the Union Jack.  This would make a  wearable piece of vintage costume jewellery for anyone attending the 2010 Olympics in London to cheer on good old team Great Britain!  The date letter on the hallmark is too rubbed to see as is the Assay Office mark but I can just make out the Lion to indicate that this is a piece of 925 Sterling Silver jewellery.  I think this is a piece from the 1970's, it could be late 1960's.  The makers initial are clear 'NG' possibly this is the work of the famous silversmith Norman Grant - certainly the quality is good enough. The Britannia Brooch is approximately 3cms in diameter.  It has a matt finish to the reverse and that needs a bit of a clean which I will leave to the new owner.  The front is smooth, clear and shiny and this item is in good condition.  The brooch fastens with a secure roll-over type clasp.
