1950's Grosgrain Waldy Bag - Black with Cerise Pink Satin Lining(sold)

It is always so wonderful to find a 'Waldybag'.  They are to vintage bags what a Jaguar is to cars! (We have Hermes as the Rolls Royce, Louis Vuitton as the Bentley, Chanel as the Lamborgini, Judith Leiber as the Merc... you get the idea!) There is something so English and proper about a Waldy bag!  This one is made of black grosgrain material in a very simple design and appears to be very 'prim and proper'.  Then you get the suprise...a bright  shocking pink satin interior! Inside it has a generous mirror pocket and is gold stamped with the words 'Exclusive Waldybag reg. Made in Great Britain'.  Now, I understand that our Royals, Queen Elizabeth, Princess Margaret and the Queen Mother all used Waldybags and you can see why when you see the quality of them.  Approximate dimension are 7 inches by 10 inches at the widest points and the shape is that of a traditional purse handbag.  The handle, which is also grosgrain, is approx 16 inches in total. This bag closes with a gilt chunky button type clasp which snaps securely. Overall the bag is in good vintge condition, it does show signs that it has been used, a bit of wear to the handle, marks on the frame and some blue ink marks to the lining.  None of these detract in anyway, it just proves we have something that was loved, used and is a genuine vintage item!
